HA12 Task 1 - Schedule

This is the final burn down chart and as you can see on day 1 obviously the ideal and the actual will be the same but then on day 2 my ideal was on for 10 tasks but the my actual went down to 8 tasks instead. Then on day 3 I was expecting to have only 5 tasks left but instead I was able to finish 1 more task than expected and then by day 4 I was able to finish all of my tasks even though I expected I'd still have 2 tasks remaining.

HA12 Task 2 – Setting Research and Ideas Generation

For this assignment I decided to go with a space settlement for my 3D environment model. The concept of my 3D environment will be a research center that is based on mars. The point of the research center is so that human kind will able to understand the environments that mars has to offer.

Since my concept is a research center based on mars I will be making all my assets look futuristic and sleek like how you would expect a research facility to look like. There will be some geometric shaped structures because whenever I think of futuristic looking structures I always imagine geometric shapes.

For the atmosphere of my environment I was thinking to make it look eerie since it is based in space especially in mars you wouldn't really expect many people except for those who were sent there. I want it to look isolated as if it was abandoned that it is only occupied by the suns warm light and the light radiating from the buildings.

The images below are what inspired me to create the futuristic structures that I included in my environment.

I like the glow in the middle because it gives it a sci-fi feel.

For my Mars base texture I used a red sand texture instead of using a mars texture because I couldn't find any mars texture that was red enough, they were mostly orange in color so I decided to use a red sand texture instead. I used the image below because I thought that looks close to what the mars's surfaces looks like if it was up close.

HA12 Task 3 – Design Pack

For my environment because I decided to go with a more futuristic feel I didn't really create anything out of the ordinary and because I used the geometric buildings as my Inspiration I just used Blender's primitive shapes that came with it like a circle based pyramid which I narrowed down it's vertices to turn it into a triangle based pyramid, I also used cubes and just extruded it to my desired shape to turn it into a sleek building.

I didn't create a mapping idea for my environment because I wanted to keep it simple so I just went with the idea of having structures close to each other and that the video will be focused on one of the many research facilities on mars so I didn't make it too big.

For my assets I thought of making power cores that glow to give it a more of a futuristic feeling. I also thought of including heli-pads so that the space vehicles would have somewhere to land on.

I plan on giving my assets a blue glow as it makes me think of the image below.

HA12 Task 4 – Legal and Ethical Checklist

I have checked my work for decency, representation of race, gender religion and sexuality and decided that I believe that it has met an appropriate standard. I also confirm that I own any relevant intellectual property withing the work that I have produced.

In terms of copy right issues I have carefully sited all of the Images that I used as an inspiration for the work that I have created.

If I were to be done for copyright purposes it could be because I used images as textures for my environment and then claim that I made them myself. I have created everything in environment but only up till the models as the images I used as textures were from other people.

HA12 Task 5 – Environment Build

So to start off my environment I first started with the base or my mars texture and to do this I first inserted a plain from Blender's primitive shapes and then I went to the material option on the right hand side and then added a material for it, I then clicked on the color option and changed it to image texture and chose the red sand texture.
After this I went on edit mode and pressed 'U' to unwrap the object and then I went back onto object mode.
I use this process for basically all of the objects that has an image texture. The image below shows the image texture set up for my heli-pad but its basically what it should look like for all of my assets that have an image texture.

This is an unfinished overview of my environment and you can see the power core generators on the left hand side and then the research facility in the middle with the heli-pad.
To create the research facility I just started with one of blender's primitive shapes which was the cube and then I just started to extruded to the directions that I desired which resulted to the image below.

To give my power core generators that glow to give it a more futuristic feel I just just changed the diffuse to emission and changed the color to blue like how wanted it to.
For the bottom part which is the pyramid it first started as a circle based pyramid but to turn it into a triangular based pyramid all I did was insert it and then decreased its vertices until it resulted to the image below. For the pattern I used the same technique as I did for the base of my environment.

The image below shows the set up I used to render out my video. First I selected a file document in which I wanted my rendered video to be saved in then I chose MPEG for the output then I clicked on the encoding drop-down menu and chose MPEG-4 for the format and H.264 for the codec. Once all of this was set in place all I did was click on the animation button above and let it render out.

HA12 Task 6 – Prototype/Flythrough Build

For my final video I want the camera to roam around my environment showing the assets of my environment from the heli-pads to the pyramid power cores and finally reaching the main asset which is the research facility itself. Then I want the animation to end with the camera going into one of the assets but before this happens I want the camera to lock in position and then pan through the environment.

HA12 Task 7 - Presentation

This is the final completed video of my 3D environment. In the video It shows the pyramid power cores along with the heli-pads, the video also highlights the main asset's like the helix decor on the research facility along with the giant space crystal the floats above the glass Taurus. I am quite happy with how this turned out because I like the way that I made pyramids glossy which allows you to see the reflection of the other assets on it and I think that this is quite a cool effect.
There are some parts that I don't like like how I only animated the power cores in some parts of the animation where I thought they wouldn't be visible to the camera anymore but I only realized at the end that they were still visible. Another thing that I also don't like is how I only put an emission node on some of the research facility's windows. Even though there were some parts that I didn't like I'm still happy with how the whole animation turned out and I'm glad that I was able to finish it in time.
If I was given more time I would go over the points that I didn't like and do them properly.
